Great Green Wall
UNCCD / African Union
The Sahara crept south for decades, swallowing grasslands at two miles a year. The Great Green Wall is Africa's answer: a 1,359-km shelterbelt from Kebbi to Borno, planted by communities reclaiming their soil. In each seedling is a farmer's future, a herder's pasture, and a continent's answer to desertification.
